Why Your Part Is Widening After 50

A widening part after 50 is most often androgenic hair loss, the most common cause of hair loss, and DHT is a big player. Androgens matter more as you get older: in your 40s, minoxidil alone may be enough, but by 55 or 60, suppressing DHT, orally or topically, usually becomes more important.

Androgenic hair loss is the number one reason for hair loss. Androgens, so DHT, is a big player. As a natural method, you can use pumpkin seed oil. Azelaic acid can also have some DHT-suppressant effects, except azelaic acid is extremely sticky. If you put it in your hair, you’re not going to be able to run your hands through it. As you get older, the androgens become a bigger and bigger issue. So if you’re 40, 45, you can probably get away with minoxidil, maybe some spironolactone, which has DHT-suppressant effects for some people. But as you start hitting 55 and 60, the DHT suppressant, either orally or topically, really becomes more important.
